Vicki grew up in central North Carolina and earned her undergraduate degree in English, followed by a Master’s in Library Science. She began her career as a school librarian, where a chance encounter with a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) opened the door to her next calling. After many conversations and encouragement, Vicki pursued further studies at North Carolina Central University, earning an M.Ed. in Special Education along with Certification in Orientation and Mobility.

With a passion for helping people of all ages gain independence, Vicki has worked with individuals from age two to ninety-two. Since 2018, she has served as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist with Invision Services Inc., where she has supported clients across North Carolina and cherished every opportunity to make a difference.

Outside of her professional work, Vicki enjoys listening to audiobooks, line dancing, and creating digital products.

Whitney Maher is a passionate and experienced Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments with over 15 years in education. She holds both a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Language and Literacy from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Whitney specializes in providing individualized, accessible instruction for students with visual impairments. She is known for her ability to build strong, positive connections with students, families, and colleagues, and works closely with school teams to ensure every student has the tools and strategies they need to succeed.

Based in Wilmington, NC, Whitney loves spending time outdoors with her husband, 4-year-old daughter, and their dog, Birdie. In her free time, she loves cooking, sailing, and enjoying live music.

Juliet Mauldin-Casanova is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor’s in Special Education. She also attended North Carolina Central University’s Visual Impairment Training Program. Juliet has a teaching license the areas of Visual Impairments, Middle School Languages Arts, and Special Education. Juliet is a native of North Carolina and a fourth-generation teacher.

Juliet lives on a farm with her husband Don. Her favorite pastime is searching for arrowheads and pottery She has 2 children, 5 grandchildren. Between the farm and teaching children she is very blessed each day to be able to do the things she loves.

Heather is from Johnston County, but recently relocated to the Winston-Salem area. She obtained my Bachelor’s degrees from Barton College in the Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Special Education: General. She also have a Master’s Degree from WGU in Curriculum and Instruction. Heather has five children who are all over the age of 18. One of my sons has hearing loss and wears cochlear implants.

I have worked with students who use spoken language and sign language. I have been an itinerant teacher for 14 years in Harnett and Johnston counties across all grade levels. I love teaching my students how to advocate for themselves and their hearing needs!

I love traveling, reading, being on or near the water, and being with my family and pets!

Donna graduated from Atlantic Christian College (now known as Barton College) with her degree in Education of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. Donna earned her MA. ED from UNC-Pembroke. After graduation, she was an itinerant teacher in Robeson and Scotland counties. Eventually, she transitioned to the Early Sensory Learning and Sensory Program working with children from birth to three years old and their families. Donna earned her Lifetime Teaching Certificate and retired after 38 years of teaching. She joined Invision in 2024.

Donna is enjoying learning to quilt, making a variety of crafts, the mountains, and spending time with family. Donna lives in Oxford with her husband and daughter.

Originally from Indiana, Angela moved to North Carolina in 2001. She holds a B.A. in English from UNC Wilmington and a Master’s in Education from UNC Charlotte. With over 15 years of experience in the middle school classroom, she has worked with a wide range of student abilities and always found fulfillment in one-on-one instruction. This passion led her to pursue certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments, where she continues to support and empower students with diverse needs.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children at the beach or in the mountains. She’s also an avid fan of scary movies and loves reading on her Kindle.

Camilla Gholson is from Jacksonville, North Carolina. She graduated from East Carolina University with both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Education with specialization in Special Education. She also holds certifications in Elementary Education, Birth thru Kindergarten, and Teaching the Visually Impaired.

Camilla has 35 years of teaching expertise in both special education and general education settings. She has taught across a wide age range, from preschool to high school, and has held pivotal roles such as Lead Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments, supervising college students, and mentoring beginning teachers.

In her career, Camilla has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence and a deep dedication to enhancing the educational experiences of her students.

Lynn grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, and Finance from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. She has earned her National Certification in Unified English Braille from the National Blindness Professional Certification Board, as well as her Library of Congress Certification in UEB Literary Transcribing from the National Federation of the Blind.

After moving to North Carolina in 2014, she began working with various categories of special needs students in multiple settings. She transcribed within the public school setting before joining Invision.

Angie, originally from West Virginia, has worked in education in both Virginia and North Carolina for the past 21 years. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree, with a concentration in Special Education, from East Carolina University in 2018. She began her classroom teaching career as a self-contained special education teacher for students with behavioral and social-emotional disorders and has just completed her third year as a TVI. She holds teaching certifications in Special Education K-12, General Education K-6, and Visual Impairment.

In her free time, Angie enjoys family time with her son, Brendan, her grandchildren, Aiden and Ethan, and traveling to watch her daughter, Caden, wrestle for Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama.

Deborah Kincaid is from Burlington, NC. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Special Education K-12  Cross-Categorical from Appalachian State University. She also holds her teaching licensure in Hearing Impaired, K-12 from UNC-G.

She spent most of her career working with students whose families chose sign language. Deborah began her career at  Central N.C. School for the Deaf in Greensboro until it closed. She also taught Deaf/HH students in the Alamance Burlington School System. Deborah worked in many classroom settings but served as an itinerant teacher for the last 10 years. Deborah retired from ABSS with 36 years of teaching experience.

Deborah is married to Richard and resides in Alamance Co. She loves walking, gardening, and spending time at the beach with family and friends.

Delia is from eastern North Carolina.  She obtained her degree in Hearing Impaired Education K-12 at Atlantic Christian College.  She also obtained add on licenses for Learning Disabilities and Mentally Disabled.  She worked as an LD/EMD Resource teacher for the first ten years and as an itinerant teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing for twenty-three years.  She worked in Nash County with students from 3-21 years old.

Delia and her husband reside in Elm City, NC.  She enjoys traveling, photography, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Audrey grew up in North Carolina. She obtained her Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education from UNC Greensboro in 2016. She worked as a special education classroom teacher in NC for 5 years.  Audrey completed a dual masters from North Carolina Central University in Teaching the Visually Impaired and Orientation & Mobility in 2023.

Audrey enjoys working with the visually impaired community and encouraging her students to build independence. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, attending sporting events, and coaching Special Olympics.

Since watching “The Miracle Worker” on television as a young child in the 60’s, Dion’s goal was to teach blind people to be independent in a sighted world. He graduated from Appalachian State University in May 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. This began a 21-year journey as a teacher of the learning disabled and the intellectually delayed in Goldsboro, North Carolina from 1982-2003. Though he enjoyed working with the learning disabled, his desire was always to work with the blind.

In the summer of 2000 while on vacation in Washington, DC, Dion saw a gentleman teaching a blind client using her white mobility cane. Inspired by this experience, he entered North Carolina Central University and in 2004 graduated with a Masters of Education in the vision impairment and orientation & mobility programs.

Dion’s career in the field spanned work as a TVI in Burlington, North Carolina from 2003-2005 and as a COMS at The Governor Morehead School for the Blind from 2005-2018. After 36 years of teaching, he retired from full time instruction in 2018.

Dion began his part time consultant work with Invision Services in 2005 as a COMS/TVI and continues to enjoy collaborating with what he calls “a fine team of professionals whose goal it is to improve the lives of the visually impaired”.

Ayla grew up in upstate New York and moved south to attend East Carolina University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education in 2017 and her Master’s Degree in Special Education with a concentration in Low Incidence Disabilities in 2019. She served as a special education teacher in Raleigh, North Carolina for four years before joining Invision. Ayla has eight years of teaching experience and is passionate about fostering inclusive learning environments and advocating for the success of all students.

In her free time, she enjoys baking, reading, spending time with her family, and planning Disney trips.

Dan Palimetakis, a native of West Virginia, began his career in education over two decades ago in Columbus, Ohio. In 2021, Dan transitioned into the fulfilling role of a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments. Prior to this, his teaching and service experiences included roles as an elementary classroom teacher, assistant principal, and principal across Ohio, Virginia, and North Carolina.

Dan holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education. He is passionate about technology and is dedicated to integrating innovative learning approaches to cater to the diverse sensory needs of his students.

Scott Rockafellow, Business Manager, has an MBA from North Carolina Central University and a BA from Gettysburg College with a concentration in Accounting and Finance. He has over 20 years of small business management experience and worked an additional 12 years as a General Business Counselor, Assistant Center Director, and Lead Counselor Trainer with the North Carolina Small Business and Technology Center (SBTDC). His primary responsibilities included counseling small business owner in all aspects of business ownership and management, teaching a Business Planning course four times a year and training counselors.

Scott was recognized for his services to small businesses with the SBTDC Executive Director Award for exemplary service.  He holds a Leadership Enhancement and Development certificate from the SBTDC and an Economic Development Finance Certificate from the National Development Council.

Angel has lived in Florida and North Carolina. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Mount Olive. Subsequently, she pursued Master of Education degrees in both Visual Impairments and Orientation & Mobility at North Carolina Central University.

From 2007 to 2021, Angel served as a teacher of students with visual impairments with the North Carolina Early Learning Sensory Support Program. The she provided support to learners and families from birth to five years of age. During that time, she served also part-time as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist with Invision. In this roles she supported learners in developing the skills necessary to travel safely and as independently as possible in the school and community environments. In January 2022, she joined Invision on a full-time basis.

As a parent of children with visual impairments, she is committed to fostering learners’ independence and empowering them to achieve their goals beyond school, supporting them in becoming confident adults capable of accomplishing whatever they set out to do with their lives.

Residing in Duplin County, she enjoys activities such as reading, sewing, quilting, and listening to music.

Debora, originally from South Jersey, earned her undergraduate degree in Hearing Impaired Education K-12 from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College). She holds a K-12 teaching licensure for the Hearing Impaired.

Debora served as an Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in North Carolina. Her responsibilities included developing and implementing individualized educational plans, providing listening, language, and academic support to students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. She also has experience mentoring teachers and working as a homebound, intensive intervention, and substitute teacher. With over 30 years of experience, Debora brings extensive knowledge and dedication to her role.

She lives with her husband in the mountains of North Carolina, where she enjoys reading, gardening, traveling, and visiting Biltmore. She has two adult children, including a son-in-law and a daughter-in-law, and a granddaughter.

Jackie hails from eastern North Carolina and earned her undergraduate degree in Hearing Impaired Education K-12 from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College), followed by an MAED in Learning Disabilities from East Carolina University.

She holds teaching licensure across several areas: K-12 Education for Hearing Impaired, Learning Disabilities, General Education Curriculum, and Language Arts and Social Studies for grades 6-9. Jackie’s career began at Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf, where she taught across all grade levels and developed curriculum. She later taught developmental college classes, middle school, and preschool in general education settings before returning to focus on Deaf and Hard of Hearing education.

From 1992 to 2018, Jackie served as an itinerant teacher for hearing impaired students in county school systems. Her role involved managing caseloads, designing educational plans, and providing crucial support in listening, language, and academic skills from preschool through high school. Currently residing in Beaufort, North Carolina, she finds joy in beach activities, cycling and finding community in her book club, fitness group, and the beautiful portside local gathering venues in Beaufort by the Sea.

Molly, a native of eastern North Carolina, started a career as a Special Education Teacher in 2000.  She spent 10 years teaching in New York City, with the remainder of her years teaching in rural North Carolina.  She has worked with various categories of special needs students in various types of settings.

An Americorp Alumni and a New York City Teaching Fellows Alumni, Molly obtained her Masters of Arts in Special Education in 2003 from City College of New York and her Administration and Supervision Advanced Certification in 2009 from Hunter College.  Molly became licensed as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments in 2019.

She is enjoying serving students with visual impairments and is currently completing a Triple Second Masters in TSVI,  Orientation & Mobility, and Assistive Technology at North Carolina Central University.

Chelsea grew up in the Houston, TX area and graduated with a Masters in Special Education with an emphasis on Orientation and Mobility in 2018 from Stephen F. Austin State University. Prior to becoming a COMS, she taught in a self-contained Lifeskills classroom at the elementary school level for 11 years.

Chelsea relocated to the Mebane, NC area in January 2020 with her husband and 6 children. In her free time, she enjoys going to festivals, traveling, and reading.

Michele Neal is from Stokesdale, NC. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Hearing Impaired Education at Atlantic Christian College, now known as Barton College, licensure in Cross-Categorical from North Carolina A & T University, and an M.A. in Language Development and Learning from Lenoir-Rhyne University.

She holds teaching licenses in K-12 Education for Hearing Impaired, Social Studies 9-12, and Special Education: Cross-Categorical. Michele began her career at the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf, teaching Social Studies and Art. She also taught Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in Durham Co., served as the Lead Teacher/Principal at the Central NC School for the Deaf, and taught Special Education in Rockingham and Guilford Counties and at Gate City Charter School in Greensboro. She became an educational consultant for the NC Department of Public Instruction in the Sensory Support and Assistive Technology section, where she served students, teachers, and administrators for 14 years by providing technical support and training.

Michele and her husband, Jeff, reside in Stokesdale, NC where she enjoys being outside, gardening, reading, painting, and being an active church member.

A native of North Carolina, Kelly received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Chowan University. She is a graduate of North Carolina Central University with a Master’s in Education with a concentration in Visual Impairment and a Masters in Education with a concentration in Orientation & Mobility.

She has served the TVI and O&M needs of students in the public schools of North Carolina for the past 20 years.

Kelly joined Invision in 2008 and enjoys working with her visually impaired students, reading, and going to the beach with her family.

Dannese is an NFB UEB Certified Braille Transcriber. She grew up in Northern California, where she studied Horse Husbandry, Equine Science and Management and ran her own facility as an Equine Breeder and Natural Horsemanship Trainer.

In 1995, Dannese moved to North Carolina and in 2008, changed her career path to Early Childhood Education and Development. She became interested in students with visual impairments and became a Certified Braille Transcriptionist working within the public school setting before joining Invision in 2019.

Dannese is excited to collaborate with the Invision Services team to serve the braille needs of students with visual impairments so they may be included in the overall classroom environment and reach their goals and discover independence as they venture into the world.

John, a native of Minnesota, received Bachelor’s degrees in English and Religion from Berea College in 1984 and a Master’s degree in Blind Rehabilitation with an emphasis in Orientation and Mobility from Western Michigan University in 1985.

John moved to North Carolina in 1985, where he was fortunate to serve the first-ever opening for the position of Orientation and Mobility Specialist in a North Carolina public school system, Wake County, and served there for several years. Seeing a need for more accessible education and rehabilitation services for blind and visually impaired students and adults across North Carolina, John founded Invision Services in 1992.

In his roles as Owner, Founding Director , and practicing Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist, John continues to provide direct O&M services in the field to adults in Minnesota and supports the Invision Team in both North Carolina and Minnesota with collaborative win-win thinking to move students, parents, instructors, school systems, and communities forward.

Deanna is from Eastern North Carolina. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Hearing Impaired Education K-12 at Atlantic Christian College, now known as Barton College, and her Master’s in Audiology at East Carolina University.

Deanna holds her NC Teaching License in K-12 Education for the Hearing Impaired. She began her career as an itinerant teacher, teaching all grade levels in Pitt County Schools, where she taught for 26 years. She now has over 37 years of experience as an itinerant teacher for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. She continues to serve students throughout the eastern North Carolina schools.

Deanna resides in Greenville, NC. She enjoys traveling, church activities, and movie/game nights with family/friends.

Allison grew up in New Hampshire and completed her Bachelor’s degree in Special Education at East Carolina University in 2017. She quickly realized that although she loves working in the world of special education, she wanted to find a job outside of a traditional classroom setting, and discovered the career of Orientation and Mobility. Allison taught as a special educator for one year while working going to school to become an Orientation and Mobility specialist. 

In 2019, Allison graduated from Western Michigan University with a Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility. She spent a year working for the Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services in Northwestern Pennsylvania before deciding to move back to North Carolina. 

Allison has been working with Invision Services since 2020 as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist, and is excited to take on the role of Lead O&M in 2025. Allison loves combining all of her experiences to help her students learn to be as independent as possible and to lead fulfilling lives beyond the school years. 

Outside of work, Allison enjoys spending time being lazy at home with her husband and twin daughters, visiting friends and family on weekends, and traveling over the summer.

Cheri Benter, a native of North Dakota, earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees from the University of North Dakota. She holds multiple certifications: Elementary Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Mild to Moderate, and Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments. She was a TBVI for the past 35 years in Northern MN. Cheri retired and moved to St Paul to be near family.

Cheri started working with Invision in the fall of 2019. Cheri was born with Albinism and as a result has been legally blind since birth. This has given her a strong belief that students with Visual Impairments and Blindness need to be afforded the same opportunities as their sighted peers.

Renee is from Wilson, NC. She obtained her degree in Hearing Impaired Education K-12 at Atlantic Christian College, now known as Barton College, and completed an add-on certification for Birth to Kindergarten. Renee traveled eastern North Carolina serving students and families of 3-5 year olds and birth to 3 year olds in homes and daycares for 30 years.

She has worked with some signing children, but most of her years teaching were spent helping children to learn spoken language through listening. Renee joined Invision in 2020 and looks forward to sharing her knowledge and serving older students. Renee is married to Scott and they have two children. She loves the beach, family time, walking with friends, and reading.

Julie has nearly 30 years of experience in the field of visual impairments. Currently, she supports all of Invision’s instructional staff through policy development, mentorship, and professional development.

She has experience as both an itinerant and resource program teacher of students with visual impairments at schools in Florida and North Carolina. She greatly enjoys working with all students, but loves the challenge of teaching braille readers. In addition to working with school-aged students, she has developed and taught undergraduate and graduate-level courses for teacher preparation programs at Florida State, West Virginia, and North Carolina Central Universities.

She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Visual Impairments at Florida State University, where she focused on orientation and mobility and helping students develop the skills needed to transition to adult life after high school. Realizing that her students could benefit from more access to and inclusion in general education activities, she completed the Elementary Education Certification Program at Florida A&M University. Julie has since earned an educational specialist degree focusing on leadership from Appalachian State University and a doctorate of philosophy in special education with an emphasis on personnel preparation and visual impairments from Florida State University. Her research interests are increasing accessibility and academic engagement for learners with visual impairments.
